I started this afternoon to work on the hood of my wife’s Jeep Patriot. After leaving Meguairs polishing compound residue on the hood, which stained it, my efforts to buff the residue away did nothing more than remove enough top coat of paint to see the gray factory primer underneath.

I put some 600 grit sandpaper on my DA sander and worked over the entire hood. I finished the body lines and edges by hand. The hood is ready for paint and clear coat. I hope to clean the hood well and tape it off tomorrow, would love to shoot some color on it before the end of the day. Guess we’ll see about that.

Tammy is out of town until late Wednesday, so I may wind up shooting paint and/or clear on it Wednesday.

Now truth be told, I could have probably spot repaired the hood. But the honest truth is that I have blended a repair in 40 years, and its safer to shoot the entire hood with paint and clear. This is my wife’s car, I don’t want to screw it up!
